First day of class

Today was quite a long day.  For whatever reason, I woke up at 6am and could not go back to sleep.  The theme of the morning was getting to know NTU.  This was accomplished through meeting faculty, a Power Point presentation, a trip to the Gallery of NTU History, and a scavenger hunt featuring important NTU locations.  My favorite games in the scavenger hunt were the "give me..." at Fu Bell and charades at the end.  Seeing the sites was interesting, but it was pretty hot with all of the running around we did.  As a treat after our hot scavenger hunt adventure, I bought some of the ice cream from the NTU farm shop.  It was good...a lot like the homemade ice cream that my family will sometimes make. In the afternoon we experienced our first two official class lectures :) I enjoyed both the overview of biodiversity in general and the biodiversity of insects.  I just took Intro to Entomology last semester, so getting to review some of that material was a nice refresher for me.  I also enjoyed having the backdrop of Taiwanese history included in the discussion of the study of insects in Taiwan.  After class I enjoyed going with a group to get cold noodles for dinner at "Noodles in my House." I still think that is a funny/cute name.  Then Stephanie, Corrin, Jenny, and I went back to class with Tom and Robin for our first Chinese lesson.  We were learning introductions, numbers, and buying/selling exchanges.  I'm not sure how much I really retained, but at least I can count up to 999 if I have time to think about it. In all, I was out and about for twelve hours today.  I should be ready for some good sleep tonight.

  1. The first step of learning chinese is to deal with the tone. Once you catch the tone...you will find it's not hard to SPEAK...^^
Practice with us if you want to :)
